Still, despite silly winds .. again .. the boys still had a good evening without me 😦 with Titch taking top weight of 64lb 10oz off peg 15 to claim top spot in the league so far (but not for long 🙂 ) followed up by Simon D on peg 5 with 55lb 5oz .. again great fishing in just 3 hours

First come, first served. Cost this year is a very reasonable £47 including peg fees, pools, brekkie both days and the barbe Saturday night. Staying for the barbe Saturday night is compulsory, the footy less so, although we’ll promise not to try and break any bones this year !!!!! As per usual, book in with Pebs (07753 743802)

Old Hatfield Angling and Nordis A C – Sunday 31st May

Sunday saw the return of both Old Hatfield Angling and Nordis A C to How End and with the weather taking a bit of a dive, we expected the fishing to do likewise, but quite the reverse happened with a fantastic weight of 91lb 8oz winning Dani’s in the Old Hatfield A C match, a bit of a turn around from the previous day!!!

Top 3 on Dani’s were:

1) Graham Hall – peg 1 – 91lb 8oz

2) Neil Anderson – peg 15 – 52lb 8oz

3) Simon George – peg 8 – 50lb 8oz

Meanwhile, on Yasi’s, Nordis A C were also fighting the weather with Bob Harris finally taking top weight with 44lb. Top 3 were:

1) Bob Harris – 44lb 0oz

2) Steve Groves – 43lb 12oz

3) Bill Noble – 34lb 12oz

How End Open – May 30th

Second open of the season and this time on Yasi’s and again the carp weren’t really showing though the silvers once again made up for it with some cracking weights of Ide and Barbel topped off by Colin Fosdick on peg 7 with a great weight of 87lb exactly, mostly caught on caster in the deeper track. Top 5 on the day were:

1) Colin Fosdick – peg 7 – 87lb 0oz

2) Richard Fullam – peg 3 – 77lb 4oz

3) Nick Rowe – peg 16 – 59lb 14oz

4) Tony Sal – peg 15 – 56lb 12oz

5) Trev Jeans – peg 13 – 50lb 4oz

The footpath bank once again produced the goods which definitely seems the place to be at the moment having won the last 3 How End matches on Yasi’s.

On Dani’s our friends from Monarch A C were having a bit of a greuler with M Baker pipping C Vincent to top spot with 24lb 12oz to 24lb 0oz, tough day at the office !!!

How End Evening League Round 1 – 25th May

Lots of news and results to catch up on and here’s the first. The How End Evening League is a series I look forward to all year and never seems to let us down. The fish seem to lose all inhibitions and have a proper munch in the evening leading to some spectacular sport which culminated in a last years top weights of 89lb by Ben Lawrence on Dani’s and 96lb by yours truly of Barbel on Yasi’s, all in just 3 hours. Its a bit of a rush and you tend to have to get it right straight off or lose, but that’s half the fun. Visits from Barn Owl’s and Bats when it goes dark just make it all the more perfect on a Summers evening. But as ever, I digress, first evening league on Yasi’s and with the carp still yet to spawn, it was always going to be about Barbel and Ide and thats what it was for the most part with some great weights coming out as usual topped off by the top 3 as follows:

1) Alan Oakes – 68lb 5oz

2) Mark ‘Titch’ Wilson – 59lb 8oz

3) Phil ‘Pebs’ Stone – 57lb 0oz

Top sport, roll on the next one !!!!

How End Summer League Round 1

First round of the Summer League and the weather Gods looked like they were being kind to us with almost perfect fishing conditions, I say almost perfect as it decided to shower for 10 minutes but that’s hardly anything to get worked up about, though our lot still managed the odd moan about walking all the way back to the car (20 yds !!!!) to get their jackets 🙂

Anyhow, more importantly, it was good to get most of the Summer League crowd back in as they’re somewhat of a jovial lot, especially our Titch who seems to have everyone and anyone in his sights this year as far as grade A abuse is concerned, although when he’s with the other partner of the Oompa Loompa’s, our own Simon D, it gets even worse as poor old Pip found out to his cost during the weigh in, though there’s far more important scandals to talk about re Simon as we’ll discuss in more detail later.

But back to the fishing, after All in everyone seemed to be catching fish bar Pirate Pete who cried out to anyone that would listen (not many !!!) what a terrible time he was having after an amazing 30 minutes. Admittedly, he did manage to lose 3 carp in the 5 minutes I was behind him but I always like to think if he ever did have a good day and manage to put all the fish in the net he hooked, he would break records everywhere. Whether that makes him an awesome angler in disguise or a prime numpty is anyone’s guess, I’ll leave that to you to work out, but either way around he was taking his Pirate impersonations to a whole new level hobbling around his peg because of his back. I was sorely tempted to chop his leg off to make the pirate pose even more authentic, but the thought of him bleeding paste was just too much to bear. Anyway, as usual I digress, there were plenty of fish being taken on both lakes so come the All out we expected great things, and as per usual, we weren’t disappointed. I made the fatal mistake of asking the Pirate how he got on, and as per usual was treated to Porky city .. ‘OH’, he said, ‘Irish Dean has battered me, hes caught 60 plus lb up in the water and I’ve only got 45lb’ … why, oh why do I ever believe the pirate, the words truth and Nash have no resemblance and couldn’t be further from each other and so it proved again, with the ‘Pirate’ weighing a dead 80lb to Dean’s 42lb 14oz .. mmmmmm and he wonders why we bought him a T Shirt stating the famous line ‘Why always me!!!!’

IMG_1046

Anyhow, the upshot of this is next match we have decided to have a liar tax, especially built for our Pirate where he who’s farthest from guessing the right weight has to pay a tax to the Charity box, me thinks the pirate may get it closer next time

Neil Smith managed to bag himself one of only 2 tincas swimming in Yasi’s

IMG_2764 - Copy

Over on Yasis’s, a proper angler pastehead by the name of Alan Oakes had battered all before him to record a top season weight of 97lb 8oz, well done Al 🙂

IMG_2771 - Copy

It does have to be said that Al makes a lovely photo, and I’m not quite sure whether it was this or Al’s pink shirt which led to the Simon D scandal but straight after weighing in Mr Oakes fish, Simon D, part of the famous oompa lumpa duo,  took it upon himself to spank another anglers arse. Not quite sure what led to this or why he suddenly had this urge, not quite sure what his girlfriend will think either, but scandal nevertheless it was, it’s never boring at How End 🙂

Top 7 on the day were:

1) Alan Oakes – Yasis 9 – 97lb 8oz

2) Pete ‘Pirate’ Nash – Dani’s 2 – 80lb 0oz

3) Richard Farrow – Yasis 15 – 79lb 4oz

4) Kev ‘bashed up by my son again’ Farrow – Danis 4 – 77lb 14oz

5) Simon ‘Bottom spanker’ Drozdziol – Yasis 3 – 74lb 12oz

6) Colin Fosdick – Danis 14 – 73lb 9oz

7) Neil Smith – Yasis 1 – 72lb 6oz

Its tight at the top 🙂

Here’s out Titch in full posing mode with a How End mini Fred

And our Pip with some Berties from Yasis 11 and Si D looking cool before the spanking scandal

This Tuesday sees the first round of the evening league, always popular for those that can escape work early, followed by the next open this Saturday on Yasis, book early to avoid disappointment

How End Open – Yasi’s – May 16th

First open of the new season on Yasi’s and even though we’d lost some water due to a leak (now fixed) there were plenty of fish showing so everyone expected a good day. And if you targeted silvers, that was the case with lots of Ide and Barbel showing although the carp had an off day (no doubt getting ready for spawning)

Our own Pip Bowlam took individual honours beating none other that Amer Jarad off the next peg to take his first win of the season catching Barbel, Ide and Carp down the edge to record top weight of 67lb 1oz narrowly beating Amer who had a big bag of Ide plus a few Berties and Carp to weigh 66lb 8oz, only 9oz behind.

Top 6 on the day were:

1) Pip Bowlam – 67lb 1oz

2) Amer Jarad – 66lb 8oz

3) Darryl Anderson – 60lb 6oz

4) Colin Fossdick – 53lb 11oz

5) Titch ‘Bloody’ Wilson – 43lb 6oz

6) Neil ‘Smiler’ Smith – 42lb 12oz

Nick Rowe also managed to smash the Bertie record with a stunning 4lb 2oz beauty, Super Gudgeon to tackle wreckers in 4 years .. wow

This Sunday sees the first Summer League match over both lakes and as I type we still have 2 spaces available so if you fancy giving it a go, get in touch. Full dates are on the web site for all Summer League and normal opens.

And then this Tuesday coming, the 26th, sees the first Evening league which if its anything like last year will be brilliant with top weights coming out of 96lb Barbel on Yasi’s and 89lb of Carp on Dani’s in just 3 hours. Welcome Summer 🙂

May 2nd – Danis – How End Open

Seemed like a long time coming or maybe not as I never ever seem to get everything done in a month, but opening weekend finally came along and with it, the first match of the season. The members had been feeding the fish while they were on a work party and there were plenty of Carp showing so everyone was looking forward to it and so it turned out to be with a good close match.

Big Ben ‘Garbo’ Lawrence took the honours overall with 75lb including 35lb of Chub caught fishing pellet shallow on the long pole, but Mark Wells on peg 6 was close behind with 68lb caught on the feeder.

This Sunday, May 16th sees the first open on Yasi’s, and then we’re thick and fast into the matches with a week later being the first Summer League on the Sunday (2 places still available) then Tuesday 26th May sees the first evening league match open again on Yasi’s, draw at 5:30, fish 6-9 pm.

On another note, after 4 seasons of How End Fisheries where we froze prices, we have finally had to up our day ticket prices to £9.50 for adults and £7.50 for concessions, though evening tickets from 4 pm onwards have been left at a bargain £5.
